Music Library grows

We started the summer with approximately 80 scores in our library.  After purchasing Glenn Call’s music with the help of a generous donation, we had about 380 scores.  Then we put in a request for some of the music coming out of the SUNY Brockport music library and we now have approximately 500 scores in our library. They have been organized in 5 file cabinets in our storage room at St. Charles.

The interim Band Committee that was formed at our last rehearsal in May to assist BJ Comer is pleased to inform all band members that under BJ’s direction, a band organization structure has been put in place. The 2014-2015 season will be an exciting and enjoyable experience for band members with new music, our Veterans Day concert with the Greece Choral Society, and many opportunities for new venues and combined performances with Rochester area musical groups. We have a fine website up and running, (greeceperformingarts.org/band/), a band Facebook page, (www.facebook.com/greececoncertband), and our own email address <greececoncertband@gmail.com> to receive inquiries from potential band members or other band business. We are acquiring the entire Glenn Call library of band arrangements. These 250 arrangements will be added to our library.

Our first rehearsal will be 7pm, Tuesday, September 9, at the Arcadia High School band room (#235). All band members are encouraged to attend, or if that is not possible, to notify another band member who will attend or to send a message to our new email address, greececoncertband@gmail.com and BJ will receive it. We also encourage those who have a Facebook account to “Like” our Facebook page and for everyone to reach out to your musical friends to come to a rehearsal. The new band organization creates coordinators for the various functions necessary to operate the band. BJ will provide overall direction to these folks. The Band Committee is comprised of all the coordinators and BJ. The functions and coordinators are:

  •  Membership: Kathi Grace (all band member activities, database info, Comm. Ed.   liaison
  •  Performance: Marcia Najjar (venues, concert logistics, concert sharing groups, planning)
  • Publicity: Jessica Spies (conceive, write, place all band publicity, assist with social media)
  • Librarian: Gail Hoover (music library operation, acquire, distribute, collect, manage music)
  • GPAS Liaison: JoAnn Kehrli-Merlau (attend GPAS meetings, represent band interests)
  • Website/FB Committee: Brian Oyer, Norm Strehle, Dan Weidenbach (active since March)

Any band members who would like to assist the coordinators are encouraged to contact them and offer your assistance.
